The South Florida Manufacturers Association (SFMA) is a strong believer that a continuous well-trained workforce leads to a more productive workforce and an efficient and profitable operation. The SFMA’s Manufacturers Training Institute, through its collaboration and partnership with FloridaMakes, is designed to accomplish that goal and provide ongoing training opportunities for SFMA members. The courses are designed with the intent on providing relevant and up-to-date issues relating to manufacturers and employee development. The courses are taught by vetted experts in their respective fields.

Module 1: Who Am I as A Supervisor?
Supervisors must understand the principles of human relations so that they can lead, motivate, coach, communicate, delegate and make effective decisions. In this module, participants will learn more about who they are and how they lead. Participants will also know the different types of behaviors that have an impact on their communications. Participants will learn certain attributes of behavior to improve communication with those around them and will become familiar with an approach that will help manage behavioral problems.
Module 4: Decision-Making The supervisor’s primary responsibility in the workplace is to make effective decisions on a daily basis. In this module, participants will learn how poor decisions can lead to serious consequences. Participants will also be provided with an outline of the decision-making process and methods for applying the steps to decision-making. Participants will learn the basic rules for implementing the decision and the team approach to it.
Module 2: Effective Communication
Good communication provides both quantitative and qualitative input. In this module, participants will learn about methods of communication and the barriers to communication. Participants will further learn the value of the feedback process, the proper use of positive and negative feedback, and the rewards of the feedback process.
Module 5: Dealing with Workplace Changes
In this module, participants will learn how to cope well with workplace change. Participants should be able to understand the nature of workplace change and how it affects them. Participants will learn the stages of change, developing resilience. Participants will use coping skills to deal effectively with workplace change. Participants will capitalize on opportunities for career growth resulting from workplace change.
Module 3: Stress Management
Pressure plays an important role in all areas of life. In this module, participants will understand exactly what stress and pressure are and their effects both inside and outside of the workplace. Participants will also be able to recognize the symptoms of excessive stress in themselves and in others. Participants will also have the awareness and knowledge and strategies to deal with stress more effectively.
Module 6: Effective Time Management
Time management has been in existence for a long time, but the term creates a false impression because time cannot be managed. We can only manage ourselves and use of our time. In this module, participants will learn how to build time management techniques into their daily routine so they can recognize and solve personal time management problems. Participants will also learn techniques to stay in control of their working day. Participants will further learn how to understand the importance of defining priorities and how to apply different approaches to their schedule.
Other Training Topics Under Development:
Check back periodically for other trainings that will be offered throughout 2020. It is anticipated that new trainings will be offered quarterly. The location will be in Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach depending on enrollment. These are also being designed with flexibility to choose as little as one seat in an open seating or customized on-site at your facility.
